Finally, the 2001 F3A World Championships are over. Winning for second consecutive time Christophe Paysant-Le Roux(CPLR), and in dominant style, winning all 9 rounds! A first in World Championship history. Quique Somenzini emerged ahead of Chip Hyde to clinch 2nd. At such high level of competition, the lead could have swung anyway, but CPLR proved to the world, he has what it takes to be World Champion. Majority of the voters in RCAEROSPORT.com were correct in voting CPLR as champion.

All results can be found at the official site, thus no standings will be listed here.

The daily coverage of the World Championships did not go smoothly as I had expected. This was for a few problems. Firstly,I was having problems with my models, and engine, and thus was pretty preoccupied. 2nd, it can be quite exhaustive after flying, especially if one starts late or early in the day. Thirdly, internet connection from the hotel proved slow and VERY expensive. I later found a cyber cafe with T1 connections at a more affordable rate. Nonetheless, I hoped you have enjoyed the few pictures I managed to put up. Personal thanks to Frederick Yong, fellow Singapore Pilot, for the use of hi laptop.

It was a great experience meeting up with many fellow modellers from all parts of the world. It was very enriching, competing in such a competition which puts you among the best in the world. I also finally met up with Serge Bordais, from France, who is a regular contributor to RCAEROSPORT.com. He has also helped in providing some of the pictures in this collection. The next World Championships/reunion will held at Poland 2003.

Futaba/Robbe appears to still be very much ahead in terms of radio equipment usage, over JR and Multiplex. YS has seems to have the smallest of advantage over O.S. , though the O.S. 140RX-EFI and 160-EFI achieved the thumbs-up from many pilots. From my knowing, most of the few pilots that had a deadstick, were on YS Power. The YS 140 DZ was not used by champion CPLR, but used by Chip Hyde and other pilots. Webra was the other engine brand used. Compilation of some engines used at the World Championships can be found at the technical section.

Pictures speak louder than words.... Below, are the many pictures from Cork, Ireland. Have a look(Do be patient as the thumb-nails load).

Please discuss of the competition in the RCAEROSPORT Forums(Ireland 2001 WC section). Post your questions in the forums, and I will try to answer them! All questions will have to go through the Forums. If you are looking for a particular picture, post it in the Forums.
