Various Engine Mounts have been produced for the YS 140Ltd. Both the YS Mount and Hyde Soft mounts did excellent jobs in protecting the airframe from vibration, and damping the noise levels.

However, there are 3 new mounts for the YS. Merle Hyde produced a new light weight mount, ZN Line marketed the Arnaud Poyet Mount, and finally, PL Prod came out with a mount designed by Philippe Marquet. If you have no idea what has been said, RCAEROSPORT will run through the 3 mounts, with pictures for your understanding. For pricing information, contact the manufacturers. RCAEROSPORT will not come to a conclusion, as to which is the better mount, but leave that up to you.

If you need more information, please e-mail the about retailers, and mention where you saw it.

Hyde Mount

Merle Hyde has been producing engine mounts for 18 years or so. Each mount comes with the concept of reducing vibration to the lowest level achieved by anyone and providing a product that just seems to yield unbelievable life, both for airborne equipment and the mount itself. His mounts are used by the United States F3A team, among countless other fliers, including Akiba during the '99 WC. All Hyde Mounts come with a 3 year/3000 flight guarantee.

Merle Hyde just came out with a new range of Hyde Mounts, AR(A) and ARI(A), for the YS 140, OS 140 and Super Tiger. The (A) stands for Aluminum Beams, replacing the regular glass filled nylon beams. The AR(A) requires a nose ring support, and the ARI(A) incorporates the nose ring support. Weight savings are around
40%-50% over the glass filled nylon beams.

Weight of Aluminum Beam Hyde Mounts(Similar, but Nylon Beam Hyde Mounts' weight in Brackets):

Type AR(A) For use with customer installed nose ring : 60g(125g)
Type ARI(A) with nose ring incorporated : 115g(190g)
All weights are +/- 5g

ZN Line YS Engine Mount designed by Arnaud Poyet

Arnaud Poyet began to design his own engine mounts, after having problems with other mounts on the market. He wanted to design an Engine Mount that is light weight, durable and of superior design.

Using Computer-Aided design on the frame design, he managed to limit the weight of the frame, and calculate its resistance. The result is a lightweight mount of only 60g. Total final weight including mounting plate, screws, bolts, front special plastic bushing is 86g. Only a few minutes is required to remove the engine. For engines other than YS 140s, only a separate plate design is needed. There is a build-in movement limitation that ensures the engine will not hit the cowl under start-stop conditions.

The mount is now marketed by ZN Line.

PL Prod Engine Mount designed by Philippe Marquet

For nearly a year PL Prod considered producing a new engine mount, and several tests were carried out with this subject. The prototype was constructed out of aluminum but was found to be noisy and fragile. PL Prod thus decided upon using Carbon Fiber for greater resistance, and for a reduced weight of 85g. Both Wolfgang and Roland Matt are using the Marquet Mount on their Smaragds. Distribution by PL Prod.

Conclusion

YS Dingo MountI hope at the end of this, it would help in your decision of choosing the best Engine Mount for your plane. If you are wondering, why didn't I include pricing? Because the list price is seldom the reflection of the actual price. It is best you find out the pricing from the Manufacturers.
