Introduction
I'm very happy to introduce to you my friend, Gianluca Crino. He is the 2001 F3A/S Italian champion and a great F3A pilot. I'm glad to have been able to convince him to write this Evolis XL review so fellow readers will get to know him and to appreciate his building , flying and testing skill! Sure, this is not the only Evolis XL review, but it is always better to have more opinions! Now, it is best to let Gianluca tell you about the ZN Line Evolis XL. Evolis XL by GianlucaConstruction
The fuselage made of Kelvar/Carbon Fiber construction, and is delivered in white gel coat finish. It has a polished finish and at the same time very light weight. The bellypan is made of the same Foam/Kevlar/Carbon inserts to add strength and to reduce engine noise. The wing and the tail surfaces are in balsa sheeted foam cores. On my kit I opted for the light wing option delivered using a lightest core. The firewall and the engine mount is delivered in plywood (but carbon option is available at extra cost). The servos tray came delivered in carbon honeycomb, but on my plane I preferred to use balsa sandwiched with 2 mm ply to have a big surface to attach to the fuselage. The kit also comes with 2 fiberglass wheel pants and an excellent contoured carbon landing gear. I built the Evolis XL as per it was delivered. I only added some ply ribs on the wings, and on the tail to cover the foam, and to add some strength .

Engine Mount
It is suggested that a 4-cycle engine be used on the Evolis XL, but I prefered to use my beloved OS 140 RX with the 2 plugs conversion. This dual plug conversion is made by an Italian, only to be fitted on the original OS 140 RX. I obtained the dual plug to solve some mid range problems I had. The propeller used is a 4 blade APC 15X11, and in my opinion, this power plant - propeller combinaton is most suitable for this model character. The Kato engine mount was used.

Serovs
For the trottle, I used a C507 ( 5Kg) from Graupner. For the 2 ailerons and the rudder I used 3 digital DS8411 (10 Kg) from GRAUPNER, and for the Elevator I used a digital DS 8231 (7Kg ), also from Graupner. The servo horns and the model horns are all from MK.

Radio
I used the FUTABA 1024ZA WC2, with Duralites batteries 1000 mAH. The antenna wire in the fuselage exited without any interference problems.

Setup
Engine: O.S.140 RX Dual plugs converted
Weight : 4.5kg
Propeller : Four blades APC 15x11
Radio : Futaba 1024ZA WC2

Servo Rates
Aileron : 35 degrees left, 35 degrees right (-30% Expo)
Elevator : 20 degrees (-25% Expo)
Rudder : 45 degrees (-30% Expo)

Flight
The
Evolis XL flight is very predictable and easy with or without wind. While it is very stable the Evolis XL may perform great and precise snaps and it is the best plane I have ever flown. I left the tail at 0° degree and to perform a F3A program, I suggest to use more aileron and rudder throw too. I really love the carbon fiber undercarriage as it has great strength and to save the plane in the hard landings.

Conclusion
In my opinion ZN Line with the
Evolis XL, has reached a plane with great characteristics in all wind conditions.
My compliments to ZN Line and Arnaud Poyet! - Gianluca Crino
